Random ramblings

It's been a full week, and I'm feeling the blogger's inertia (Read: Newton's 1st law of motion *heh heh*)

Not that I don't wanna blog - I think about what to write about between very busy periods of work, Clarah, football etc etc - but there're so much to write about, and the energy level I have for blogging is like Economics: how to manage scarce resource. Yes, I have limited energy for blogging (am I nua, or am I just lazy?)

I think about:

  • How on earth I can upload AND display all those Israel trip pics, and talk about them. Geez, the pics are meaningless to those who have ABSOLUTELY no clue how significant the land God designate as the land of promise is. It's a treasure house of pictures man! Then again, it's gonna bore the crap out of some of ya *grin*
  • United: so many random thoughts, mostly regurgitated from other peoples' opinions in the United forum.
  • Some of the tags I've not replied yet. The limited time I have, I just don't wanna blog leh, just wanna post on forums and read about news in Singapore and Manchester *lol*
OK, before I get too nua to continue posting, here I go:

Cheyenne:
It's always great to see ya again too! Maybe this Saturday at the Eliz? My bro won't be there, not sure if I'll be too though.

!PestilencE!:
It was great! Well, mainly memorable, will talk a little about it below ... if I got the blognergy! *grin* (PS. sorry, you are?)

Walt(er?)/WY:
Sorry to keep you guys waiting man. Especially WY, who's overseas for like what, 5 weeks, defending our nation??!?! Oh man, hats off to you bro.
Will look forward to seeing WY especially, when we can watch United in Moscow lifting the giant UEFA Champions League trophy while we ManUtdSG brothers celebrate in ecstacy!!!

Mark:
You want present? Can, here's your blog entry! *grin*

Rae Rae:
Aiyoh, 自己人 also must "feel honoured" ah? *grin*

Thanks for your well-wishes, you're such a sweet sis-in-Christ, or should I say, god-daughter?? *hahahahahahaha* ...

Oh, holiday "injury" update: my ankle still feels sore, though can walk normally without limping liao. Cough from Israel trip still persisting :( ... well, my Lord Jesus has delivered healing already, and I've declared my healing by His stripes liao. Should be up and jiffy in perfect voice when you come Monday!

Ichigo:
Yup, I do teach Science, but I don't really teach Biology. Do you live in the west? Else it'll be better for you to find a tutor that lives near you, the travelling can be counter-productive you know. Well, if you want, you could look for me on MSN (mervcustom@hotmail.com), and I can try to help you now and then? :)

Ashley:
Great to see ya again too! Will upload pics soon! (Finally got some of it onto the comp, am trying to get more pics from friends :) )

Jason:
Thanks!

*****-----*****-----*****-----*****

There it is, the blognergy has sapped already ... til the next update! And yes, my last few shipments of United goalkeeper jerseys have come in, and I'll be photo-taking/showcasing real soon! (That is, maybe one or two weeks time :P)

To end off, just to summarize the wonderful Israel trip with two photos of what's most meaningful to me:

Saw Golgotha??!

Oh, and we whipped Roma 2-0, IN ROME! HALLELUJAH!!! :D

One for Ronaldo's superhero effort *hahahahahaha*

BEEEAUTIFUL!!!

Manchester United 4 - 0 Aston Villa

FHOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Haven't seen United dominate the whole match with such beauty and doggedness for some time, fantabulous!!!

Too tired now to talk about the match, update later!

PS. will have to wait 'til when I'm freer to upload Israel trip pics, talk about breathtakingly beautiful!

27.3.08

Back home from home

Hey folks! Yes, I know you miss me *grin*... (otherwise, what on earth would you be doing here??!?!)

*grin*

OK, before I decide to talk about my trip to the Promise Land - and the wonderful Holy City from which my Lord will reside in that millennium of שָׁלוֹם peace - just wanna take a short straw poll (at the right):

Wanna hear about my Israel trip??

Poll ends on Friday (Saturday midnight), by then I'll upload pics already. Maybe to tell you about my celebrations with United friends who went along to Israel *grin*

*****-----*****-----*****-----*****

OK, to my dear tag friends:

Rae Rae: No worries lah, you know I was kidding (don't you?). See ya on Monday!
PS. you had E Maths test during these two weeks??

KY (Peanut) & Nigel (Ichigo): I'm confused liao, but no worries, United are and will be still the champions *champion grin*

Michelle: Miss you too *squeeze out teardrop* :P ... erm, wait, before I miss you: which Michelle? (sorry, you didn't leave a link lah)

Glenn Glenn: sorry, didn't get to tell him lah. He brought his 臭豆腐 face to Stamford Bridge and got a
tyco win over L'Arse.
Talk about the Arse: I said at the beginning of the season that having Gallas the bald-Gas as capt was a bad mistake by Wenger, and thank God it's surfacing now. Still, for the sake of my bro (and yes, the lovely Cheyenne), I'd still prefer Arsenal to pip Chelsea for the 2nd spot ... sorry, United's gonna
lambano the Premiership, Olé!

Shaun: Hey bro! Shaun Elijah right? Steady lah, not many young men make wise and courageous choices like you did *hahahahahahahahaha*

*****-----*****-----*****-----*****

Will end off this little note by saying well done to our courageous lads for pulling off a solid run of wins, capping off with a fine 3-0 victory over Liverpool. Was praying for our lads while PLAYING around the Dead Sea (yeah, my fat ass was floating on the water ... talk about saturated! Whoa, wait 'til my Chem students get to see a huge salt crystal I brought back, the Dead Sea's so saturated now that salt can crystallize at the bottom of the Dead Sea, whoa!)

Wonder if there'll still be football when Jesus Christ (ישוע המשיח) resides in Jerusalem (יְרוּשָׁלַיִם) :D

Poll result: UCL quarter-final opponent

Added about 3½ hours after the draw:

SHOCKING UPDATE!!!!!

(Click on image to view the full image)

Conspiracy at UEFA?? Champions League draw FIXED??!?!

Why am I not surprised?? UEFA bitches :\

(Sources: ManUtdSG forum, the original source, as spotted by a friend)

Update (at 4hrs after draw):
UK news websites reporting the "mystery" liao!
- Mirror report
- Liverpool Daily Post report

*****-----*****-----*****-----*****-----*****-----*****

Earlier post (at about ½ hour after the draw)

Here are what you voted for:

Arsenal 4 (14%)
Chelsea 2 (7%)
Inter-Milan Liverpool 3 (11%)
Roma 3 (11%)
Barcelona 2 (7%)
Schalke 4 (14%)
Fernerbahce 7 (25%)

MANCHESTER UNITED (for the other fans) 2 (7%)

*****-----*****-----*****-----*****

And the draw results:
Arsenal v Liverpool
AS Roma v Manchester United
Schalke 04 v Barcelona
Fenerbahce v Chelsea

(Ties to be played April 1st/2nd and 8th/9th)

*****-----*****-----*****-----*****

Despite most of you choosing Fenerbahce (you cheeky bastards! *heh heh*), I suppose 3 of you got what you wished for: hoping for our boys to emulate the 7-1 drubbing of Roma last season eh? This time, it'll definitely be a whole new different ball game, with the Italian side surely itching to meet us head-on with fire in their bellies, fighting to (their) death.

Which means our boys just have to play it tight, with cool heads and get a very decent result - as we are playing at Old Trafford in the first leg before heading to the Italian capital. Or should I say, the mafia capital (referring to the thugs in the Roma's stands, not the city itself).

2-0 at least, I'd say. Then push for an early goal at the Olympic stadium to secure our battle against Barcelona/Schalke.

*****-----*****-----*****-----*****

At the risk of sounding arrogant/ putting the cart before the horse, I'd also look forward to our line-up at the semi-finals:

Arsenal/Liverpool v Fenerbahce/Chelsea
Schalke/Barcelona v Roma/Manchester United

(Ties to be played April 22nd/23rd and 29th/30th)

So, we're either looking to Schalke - whom I voted for, by the way - to conjure up a miracle win over Messi-less Barcelona, with Ronaldinho reportedly off-form too.

Still, it looks like gonna be a Barcelona - United semi-final match-up. Mouth-watering eh? ... as long as we get past the Roma hurdle first. Feet on the ground, just like I hope our lads' are.

*****-----*****-----*****-----*****

I'll be leaving for overseas for a week and a half (yes, a much look-forward-to trip with the lovely Fern! and the wonderful Lord of course); as such I'm not gonna update my blog for the next dozen of days or so. Well, when my new batches of jerseys and shorts come in, look out for more jersey showcases!

(Yes, more wonderful past United jerseys, I'm mad eh?? :D)

Cheers!

PS. looking forward to Arsenal vs. Liverpool too ... well, I'm backing the Arse to put one over perceivingly-great overachieving Poo. For my bro. They can if they put their heart into it (come on Cheyenne! Fab needs you! *grin*)

Kev: Moscow trip?

Weekend of Upsets - acroamatic

Must acknowledge that this post, as well as the title, is inspired by Kenneth's latest blog entry:

  • United's loss to Portsmouth - or should I say, United ROBBED by the referee (why am I not surprised he shares the same surname as Mr. Bean). That one was REALLY (an) upset(ting)
  • Barnsley heroically and historically knocking out Chelsea to earn their place in the semi-finals. I swear, if Barnsley win the FA Cup like I hope they will, I will buy a Barnsley jersey and print

    POO-SEA KO
    08

Yes, I know, doesn't sound very wholesome *lol* ... but that's who Barnsley knocked out :D

  • Arsenal dropping two points against lowly Wigan. Thank you Bruce!

  • And finally - on a non-football battleground - Barisan Nasional failing to not just attain two-thirds majority, but losing 5 states! Whoa ... talk about a big comeback from the opposition.

(Here's a little trivial Kenneth pointed out:

    * P.S. Did you know that the Democratic Action Party - part of the loose opposition alliance in Malaysia - is related to Singapore’s People’s Action Party? The similar name and the logo colours are big hints.

(was about to put up the contrasting images of the parties, but I'm not interested to further descend this blog entry into a political commentary, so there! *grin*)

Oh well, I've 消气'ed a lil' already (let go of that bitter disappointment, for those who are learning Chinese *grin*), especially since I know our boys can and will continue to give the season a major turbo boost to grab the Premiership and Champions League that our squad are destined to win. I know we can get favourable results - and I mean winning results - against first Pool soon at Old Trafford, then Chelsea away. And finally, the mouth-watering potential title-decider against Arsenal at home. We practically pushed them all the way at the Emirates (2-2), we trounced them 4-0 in the FA Cup. We'll beat them clean fair and square this time to reclaim our rightful place.

WE'LL NEVER DIE, WE'LL NEVER DIE
WE'LL ALWAYS SOAR, WE'RE FLYING HIGH

I'll be missing the major blockbuster weekend against Liverpool (along with Arsenal vs. Chelski) though. No worries, no sweat.

PS. Should I label "Liverpool beating West Ham" as an upset?? *grin*

*****-----*****-----*****-----*****

Not sure if I have time to update this blog, or even this entry with pics (whole week working like crazy); be back when I can!

Treble II dream gone ... fight for Double lor

Dream killed tonight by a sucker punch.

No kara.

Legit penalty denied, just because it was early in the game and it was Ronaldo. I can only hope the referee goes home to find his home ransacked and his mother and wife bleeding dry. Then he'll know what it means to get robbed. Bastard.

Added: Remembered seeing the replay, Milan Baros, f***ing typical scouser, kicked Kuszczac in the face and went for the dive. Ref bought hook line and sinker - or more likely a pak'kat - and sent Kus off even though there were two defenders covering. I absolutely abhor these kinds of people, they should be spine-broken and left lying paralyzed permanently in a coffin. ALIVE.

Someday... I'll make someONE pay...
*still pissed*

Showcase: FA Cup retro jerseys

FA Cup Quarter Final
Old Trafford
Saturday 8th March 2007
KickOff: 2045hrs (SGT)

Credit: The awesome graphics and analysis work of Kenneth Sashi (thanks buddy!)

In our continual quest for football dominance (and pursuit of the Treble II in honour of the Busby babe's 50th anniversary), spotlight now shines on the FA Cup. Without feeling the need to replicate Kenneth Sashi's fantastic work, I urge you (especially United fans) to check out his pre-match analysis, comprehensive stats and a great write-up to today's quarter-final clash with Pompey.

Victory tonight would earn us a place in the last 4, and just two more victories towards another prestigious silverware (yes, I still value the FA Cup, we're the record winner of the FA Cup).

*****-----*****-----*****-----*****

Presenting: FA Cup retro jerseys
(well, at least those that I have)

Wembley 1958 Wembley 1963 FA Cup final 1983

- FA Cup final 1958 replica jersey

FA Cup final 1958 replica jersey

Wembley 1958 crest

This is a replica of the jersey United lads wore against Bolton. After the Munich air disaster, the team was stripped of her best players, and a huge majority in England actually supported United in sympathy (or so I learnt). Alas, we lost 2-1, due to a controversial goal (again, I didn't see the black-and-white review of the match, just read up only. Anyone young enough to have witnessed that final? :)

Not too sure if the crest above is the Manchester United crest, as compared to the one below. (United's older crests had a ship, symbolising Manchester as a port city ... I think)

A little trivial: I wore this jersey - complete with a custom-made black armband - to stand with our lads in remembrance of the Busby babes. Remember the Munich anniversary match against Manchester City (which we lost 1-2, sadly)? Sigh, because of that loss - can't blame our boys, they were too caught up with the emotions and responsibilities and all - I feel like this shirt is a bit of a jinx liao.

(Nevertheless, if I were to sell this shirt, it's gonna fetch quite a price - seems that there's a demand for it).

- FA Cup final 1963 replica jersey

Wembley 1963 crest

Can you see the "ship"? *grin*

This is apparently one of my favourite casual outing shirts to wear (nice though heavy cotton), though the red has washed out a little already.

Oh, the history: we beat Leicester City 2-1. One of our 18 FA Cup triumphs.

- FA Cup final 1983 replica jersey

Sad to say that, this is a rather poor-quality replica; nevertheless, it still forms part of my ... dare I say it? ... proud collection of United jerseys worn by blessed players who had graced Old Trafford throughout the generations.

FA Cup final 1963 replica jersey

FA Cup 1983 crest

We beat Brighton & Hove Albion (pre-incarnate of West Brom Albion?) 4-0 in an FA Cup replay after drawing with them 2-2 earlier. Those were the days where the FA Cup MUST be worn decently and not in the lottery of the penalty shootout.

(which I must admit, our ManUtdSG team doesn't have a very decent record as of yet *grin*)

*****-----*****-----*****-----*****

There is one FA Cup final that is special to all United fans:

Yes, MANCHESTER UNITED beat Liverpool 2 - 1 to deny them the Treble that year 1977!!
Have to give it to the Liverpudlians for winning the Division 1 title and European Cup though, it's considered quite a magnificent achievement. Still, it's amazing we managed to wrest the FA Cup from the (then) giants of English football.

Our lads walking up the famous Wembley steps to receive the trophy. Must say that I'm really touched by the gestures of respect accorded between the players from two supposedly fierce northern rivals. How I wish today's game is propped up by such sportsmanship.

Who says "YNWA" is a Liverpool anthem??

(It's a UNIVERSAL anthem, IMO)

The only 1977 jersey I have is a "Silver Jubilee" replica:

Silver Jubilee 1977

Silver Jubilee 1977 crest

To be honest, I can't say for sure what the "Silver Jubilee" anniversary the club was commemorating, though I am guessing the anniversary of the first ever (old) Division 1 title that United ever won (in 1907-08 season). That's a 70th anniversary then! (Well, since then, we've been champions 16 times, soon to overtake Liverpool's record deservedly).

Will be wearing that jersey this evening at the Portsmouth game, looking forward to our FA Cup semi-final berth!

UEFA Champions' League: Post-2nd round

WHO WOULD YOU RATHER MEET IN THE QUARTER-FINALS?

So, now the 2nd round ties are (almost all) dusted and done, with Arsenal completing the most sensational victory among all the 2nd round victors (how dramatic: the Italian press is mourning the symbolic demise of Italian football and the just-as-symbolic hailing of a resurgent youthful English team), and United completing the job with "ruthless efficiency" (quoting TNP).

(well, almost all. Wondering what's the excuse of delaying the InterMilan-Liverpool tie)

And the quarter-finalists' list is out:

  • Manchester United England
  • Arsenal England
  • Chelsea England
  • Inter-Milan Italy flag (or maybe Liverpool?)
  • Roma Italy flag
  • Barcelona Spain flag
  • Schalke Germany flag
  • Fenerbahce Turkey flag

Poser:
Would you, a United fan, prefer us to meet with a so-called lesser opponent?

Or should United showcase its prowess by eliminating the bigger teams on the way to European glory?

(No disrespect to any of the quarter-finalists, given any team at this stage must be taken seriously by now)

Again, with due respect to Schalke and Fenerbahce (for knocking out two teams of fine footballing pedigree, Porto and Sevilla respectively - albeit by penalty shootouts), I am tempted to prefer United face either of them at this stage, so that we can build our momentum of form towards the semis and then finals. Knowing the "luck" of the damn draw, we'd most likely face another tough opponent ...

Oh well, we did face toughies ALL the way during the Treble season: Group of Death (Barce, Bayern), Inter, Juve and then Bayern again. And we were still champions, no one could get in the way of destiny. So ... bring 'em on!

And if Pool manages to dump the Italian champion-designate Inter-Milan - a fine side, in my opinion - especially given their impressive 2-0 win at Anfield, I'd say:

BRING 'EM ON!!!

I certainly wouldn't mind bringing Pool on, better to knock them out of their European fantasy and bring their senses back to reality. How sweet would another humbling of Pool be man...

Kill Poo Killed Poo!

(These avatars appeared in December in the forum before and after we beat Liverpool 1-0 at Anfield *grin*)

Plus, they'd benefit from taking a retreat in order to put their houses back in order *grin*

*****-----*****-----*****-----*****

Well, will be eagerly anticipating for the outcome of the quarter-final draw! So, who would you prefer to meet?

Manchester United 1 - 0 Olympique Lyonnais

WOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Treble II task done, WE'RE ON OUR WAY!!!

Manchester United 1 - 0 Lyon
(Aggregate: 2-1)

Won't go into the details of the game, was watching with a little daze (only 1 hour sleep) and match-anxiety at the same time. But what a high to watch Ronaldo squeeze the ball in at the tightest angle (Coupet couldn't even find the time to muster a low-dive save!)

Scorer:
Ronaldo

Of course, what a shocker to find AC Milan down 0-2 when the coffeeshop uncle (or rather, the enterprising ang mor guy) switching channel. Kudos to Arsenal (congrats again Kev), hope we will meet in Moscow and not before that. That'll cap a wonderful season (no better rival fans to have than the wonderful Elizabeth hotel bunch of Kev, Steve, Siren, Shai, Tiong, Jin, Pete, DJ, Al etc etc etc... why can't any Pool fans be as sporting?? Well, except that one friendly guy at the Holland V coffeeshop 2 weeks ago.)

Will post highlights as it comes up, cheers!

Showcase: UEFA European Cup / Champions' League jerseys

In light of the fact that part of our Treble II dream hinges on tonight's (or rather, tomorrow morning's) 2nd round decider against Lyon at Old Trafford, I bring to you:

The UEFA European Cup / Champions' League jerseys

Noticed the significance of the three shirts showcased?

European Champions 1968 European Champions 1999 European Champions 2008?

European Cup roll of honours (reference)

- European Cup 1968
European Cup final 1968 - Blue kit (L/S)

European Cup final 1968 - Blue kit (L/S) - closeup
(The old United crest)

So glad to say I got another one of this classic shirt for a wonderful friend (who, let's just say, you won't believe that he is chosen to be among the country's elite to be commissioned as a guardian of honour in the Armed Forces *LOL*). Bro, hope you love it, it puts a smile on my face if you're glad to hold a classic in your hands.

(PS. my photography really sucks, but then again, I've no love for photography/lighting etc.)

- UEFA Champions' League 1999 (the "Treble" season)
(as showcased earlier)
European champions 1999European champions 1999 - KEANE 16

European champions 1999 (see the watermark?)

See the watermarks? (Quite classic)

European champions 1999 (One-star)European champions 1999 (One-star)

Crest taken with and without flash. The shininess does make the crest stand out. As I mentioned in my earlier post, I won't be rushing to get the 2-star version ... coz I'd be getting next season's 3-star! *cross fingers*

(I had to control the flash and lighting this time, otherwise the whole crest would be just a shiny bald patch like Zidane and Brazilian Ronaldo *grin* ... no disrespect to them, they're great footballers),

- Conqueror of Europe 2008??

European champions 2008?
Ronaldo's 2007/08 UCL jersey

It's a pity I didn't get to take the pictures of the UCL ball patch in greater detail, but the patch has a 3D effect with its embossed design. Quite nice (if not expensive :\ ). Oh, and the number 7 has United crest on it, thought that was like coolness man!

Nevertheless, I truly believe Ronaldo, along with Rooney's inspirational drive, are the key to our Treble II dream. As long as young men dream of greatness, they are destined for it. (You may not believe this, but when I was deciding between ROONEY or RONALDO, I decided that 7 is a great and Godly number, so I printed RONALDO lor, hahahahahahahaha)

*****-----*****-----*****-----*****

Man Utd ECWC 91 - Steve Bruce

I understand United has another European triumph - the European Cup Winners' Cup 1991 (after our wonderful FA Cup 1990 final replay victory over Crystal Palace), that 2-1 victory against Barcelona basically immortalized Mark Hughes and Steve Bruce, as well as provided the spark for our 90s greatness.

Well, getting this: European Cup Winners' Cup 1991 (Credit: OldFootballShirts.com)

will remain a VERY long-term goal (I will wait VERY patiently for a good deal to come along). Meanwhile, I'm just happy to hold onto a collection of United jerseys from 1991/92 season onwards, when I first started getting mesmerized (and suffering heartache from Leed's title win) by United. Still, it'll be significant to hold the ECWC 1991 final shirt.

*****-----*****-----*****-----*****

Will be staying awake to silently (yes, TRY at least to be silently *Heh heH*, don't wanna wake the neighbourhood with my cheers) cheer United on in her continual quest for European supremacy. Olympique Lyon won't be easy, especially with Karim Benzema's deadly striker's instinct (Old Trafford-bound, hopefully? As long as that money-grubbing pieface isn't so unreasonable and ruin Benz's future), Juninho Pernambucano's wide array of free kicks (damn, had to keep googling to spell his name), Ben Arfa (not on good terms with Benz??) and the lot.

Speaking of Juninho, he has sounded our boys a warning against complacency against Lyon. Just as well, I have full confidence our lads will rise up to the occasion to achieve for United what she is destined for: GREATNESS.

Look out for post-match! :)
